Netscape 4.X Instructions
Introduction
You can use a GeoTrust
My Credential certificate to send and receive secure
e-mail messages over the Internet with Netscape. Netscape
supports the Secure Multi-Purpose Internet Messaging
Extensions (S/MIME) protocol; My Credential conforms
to this standard allowing you to use this for encrypted
e-mail.
Obtain a GeoTrust
My Credential certificate for use with Netscape
In order to send and receive
secure messages in Netscape you must have a digital
certificate. To obtain a certificate, please use the
information below.
Enrollment Process:
1. Complete enrollment and
verification process.
2. Go to your custom certificate
pickup page to obtain your new certificate.
3. Click on the 'INSTALL' button.
Note: In order to complete the certificate
installation process, you must complete both the enrollment
process and certificate pickup process using the same
browser.
Verify
your GeoTrust certificate installation has been successful
Perform the following tasks from within Netscape.
1. Select 'Security' from the
toolbar
2. Go to 'CERTIFICATES' > 'YOURS'
(Figure 1)

3. You should be able to locate
your certificate in the list
Signing and/or Encrypting
messages individually
1. Compose a new message
2. Select 'Security' from the
toolbar
3. Select 'Encrypt this message'
to encrypt the contents of the message (Figure 2)
4. Select 'Include my Security
Certificate.' to digitally sign the message (Figure
2)

Encryption options only appear
if a valid certificate exists for a message recipient.
Signing and/or
Encrypting messages automatically
1. Select 'Security' from the
toolbar
2. Go to 'MESSENGER'
3. Locate the section labeled:
'Sending Signed/Encrypted Mail' (Figure 3)

4. To automatically digitally
sign each message place a check mark in the box labeled:
'Sign mail messages, when it is possible'
5. To automatically encrypt
each message place a check mark in the box labeled:
'Encrypt mail messages, when it is possible'
Placing a check mark in both
boxes will automatically digitally sign and encrypt
each message. Encryption options only appear if a
valid certificate exists for a message recipient.
